GTA 5 will help promote the UK video games industry, says TIGA

A title like Grand Theft Auto 5 will get everyone very excited and shines a light on the UK games industry.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is sure to sell millions of copies across the UK, but it could do more than line the pockets of Rockstar and Take-Two, UK games industry trade body TIGA has said.

Importantly, such a high profile high calibre title will shine a light on the potential of the game development sector in the UK.

"GTA 5 is one of those titles that gets everyone very excited and shines a light on the UK video games industry," said Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO. "It shows the world that the UK has the creativity and talent to make great games. It shows the economic potential of the game development sector. It generates interest in the achievement and potential of other studios throughout the UK."

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia believes GTA 5 will make an operating profit of $230 million.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will be released September 17 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

There are tax breaks for british games now, but the rules to get them are pretty ridiculous. The game has to be set in Britain. Everyone in the game has to sound British, as well as the people making it...

I forgot bout the getaway I bloody lives them games driving round a city I actually know and racing round it was great fantastic games just failed with depth if they did it again but more as GTA/saints row with the underground and aircraft with side quests and mini games that would really increase uk games demand, was produced in soho wasn't it remember Oneida the levels been a shoot out in there studios. Got me excited for that possibility now rbevanx

It's true really, probably the biggest game series of all time, releasing one of, if not, the biggest game of this year, was and is developed by Rockstar North, a British studio, based in Edinburgh.

If this doesn't shine some light, nothing will.
