Often lauded as one of the best katanas in the game, it’s well within your interest to learn how to get Rivers of Blood in Elden Ring. This katana is particularly busted – thanks, in part, to its high Bleed buildup – due to how obscenely powerful the weapon’s Corpse Piler Ash of War is. For you bleed aficionados out there, you won’t want to miss this weapon.

Where to find Rivers of Blood

You can only get Rivers of Blood by killing the NPC invader Bloody Finger Okina at the Church of Repose, in the Mountaintops of the Giants. When you reach the Foot of the Forge site of Grace, travel directly west to come across the Church of Repose. As you approach, you will be invaded and you must now defeat Okina to get his weapon. This region is gated behind story progression, so it only unlocks towards the very end of the game after going up the Grand Lift of Rold.

Armed with the Rivers of Blood himself, Okina is a tough fight. You’ll see him greatly abuse the Corpse Piler Ash of War and inflict you with bleed on more than one occasion. He is very aggressive, so you shouldn’t play too defensively. Try and stay close to him, and circle around the back for a backstab if you can. When he backs off to heal, this is the perfect time to catch him out and go for a stun lock. When you manage to beat him, you will get Rivers of Blood and the Okina Mask.

Rivers of Blood stat requirements

To wield Rivers of Blood, you will need 12 Str, 18 Dex, and 20 Arc. As a unique weapon, you cannot change its Ash of War, but you wouldn’t want to do that anyway. When used, you perform a series of fast slashes that have a huge range. Each hit of Corpse Piler causes bleed buildup on the enemy even if they’re blocking. The range is so large you can even hit some enemies through walls to cheese them down for an easy kill. To upgrade Rivers of Blood, you will need Somber Smithing Stones, and as such, its maximum rank is +10. At +10, Rivers of Blood has E Str scaling, B Dex scaling, and D Arcane scaling. The more you pump into your Arcane stat, the more powerful the bleed effect will be.
