Of all the quest lines in Shadow of the Erdtree, Count Ymir’s is arguably the most involved as he has you running around the map tracking down ruins. There’s something a bit off about him despite him repeatedly promising to help you, and come the end of the quest you’ll see why.

To start the quest, you’ll need to talk to Count Ymir at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in Scadu Altus. He’ll give you the Ruin Map, the Hole-Laden Necklace, and mention ringing a bell to be ‘guided by the stars.’ You can also talk to the black knight standing against one of the church pillars a little further back on the right.

Ruin Map 1 location

Travel to the Cerulean Coast Cross site of grace, then follow the beach northeast. Climb up the ruin on the beach, and go right. You’ll come across the Finger Ruins of Rhia site of grace. Press east along the cliff and down into the pit below. Head for the circle ruin to the north and sound the hanging bell when you get there. You’ll get the Crimson Seed Talisman +1.

Return to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and talk to Count Ymir. He’ll give you a second Ruins Map and Beloved Stardust.

Ruins Map 2 location

Travel to the Fingerstone Hill site of grace in Scadu View in the northeast of the map. The region is accessible via a hidden passageway in the room to the right of the Shadow Keep, Back Gate site of grace, which itself is accessible by climbing up to the rafters of the Specimen Storehouse and riding a lift down. You’ll need to use the Oh Mother gesture in front of the statue to open up the passage. The gesture is found north of Bonny Village in Scadu Altus.

Travel south to the Finger Ruins of Dheo avoiding the hard hitting Alien-like enemies along the way. Once there, sound the hanging bell. You’ll get Cerulean Seed Talisman +1. Head back to the Cathedral and chat with Count Ymir. He’ll give you a third Ruins Map.

Ruins Map 3 location

Fast travel away from the Cathedral then back again. Count Ymir will no longer be sitting on the throne, but there’s now an option to interact with it to reveal a hidden pathway down. The map points to the Finger Ruins of Miyr underneath the cathedral itself.

Head down the ladder and follow the path up to the hanging bell, defeating the Swordhand of Night Anna invader as you go. Sound the hanging bell when you reach the top. You’ll spawn into a boss arena. Defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers. You’ll get the Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers and unlock the Finger Birthing Grounds site of grace.

Return to the Cathedral and interact with the throne again. Swordhand of Night Jolan will invade. Defeat her and Ymir will show up triggering the Count Ymir, mother of fingers boss fight. Defeat him to get Ymir’s Bell Bearing, Maternal Staff, High Priest Hat, High Priest Robe, High Priest Gloves, and High Priest Undergarments.

Reload the area and you’ll find Jolan collapsed at the foot of the pillar where she usually stands. You’ll have the choice of giving her and Iris of Grace or an Iris of Occultation. Choose the Iris of Grace to get Sword Hand of Knight Jolan spirit ash or the Iris of Occultation to get the Sword of Night.
