Great Katanas are a new type of weapons added to the Shadow of the Erdtree. There are three you can get in the expansion with one being the Dragon Hunter’s Great Katana. Getting this weapon, however, isn’t the easiest feat.

Deep within the Dragon Pit dungeon, you can find a boss named the Ancient Dragon-Man. This fearsome foe drops the powerful great katana. Defeating him is no simple task and you’ll need to be prepared. Here is how to get the Dragon Hunter’s Great Katana.

Where to find the Dragon Hunter’s Great Katana

To get the Dragon Hunter’s Great Katana, you need to defeat the boss of the Dragon’s Pit dungeon located in Scadu Altus. To find this dungeon, follow the path southeast of the Castle Front Site of Grace until you reach the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace. From here, continue south and you will be invaded by the Ancient Dragon-Man. Continue south and you will find the entrance to the Dragon Pit.

Once in the dungeon, follow the tunnel to where it opens up and deal with the enemies inside. Continue through the tunnel until it opens up a second time. You might be tempted to jump through the hole in the wall but this will lead to your death. Take the long route that goes around near the archer.

In the area with the staircase, continue down to avoid needing to fight a Great Wyrm. This will lead to a room with pillars and a large hole. Jump into the hole. This is a long fall but don’t worry, you’ll survive the landing. This will land you in front of the boss fog wall. Go inside and defeat the boss named the Ancient Dragon-Man. Doing this will get you the Dragon Hunter’s Great Katana.

Dragon Hunter’s Great Katana overview

One of the new great katana weapons exclusive to the expansion, this large weapon stands out due to its size and ease of use. It has a slower swing speed than that of a normal katana or similar weapons such as light greatswords. Of course, it hits much harder thanks to its size as well.

This weapon scales with both dexterity and strength but requires more dexterity to use. It has a weapon art that has the player lift into the air before slashing with a red mist. This red mist can shoot a projectile forward similar to that of Rellana’s Twin Blades. This weapon art is useful when dealing with multiple foes.
