  • Furnace Golems are weak to Hefty Fire Pots, especially when they’re thrown in their basket
  • Magic and ranged users should target their faces as this is their weak spot
  • Melee users must attack both legs to stagger it and get a critical hit

Upon entering the DLC area in Shadow of the Erdtree for the first time, your initial reaction was probably something like ‘wow, this looks incredible’, immediately followed up by ‘oh my god, what is that thing?’. The towering Furnace Golems of the Land of Shadow are bigger than anything we’ve seen so far in Elden Ring, and a daunting prospect.

But like any daunting enemy in Elden Ring, they can be taken down with some effort. We’re here to give you some handy pointers on killing any of the Furnace Golems in Shadow of the Erdtree.

How to beat all Furnace Golems in Shadow of the Erdtree

First things first, you probably shouldn’t bother trying to fight them as soon as you enter the DLC. Maybe if you’re already massively overlevelled you can give it a go, but because of the unique progression in the DLC that is Scadutree Blessings, you’re unlikely to have the firepower to take one down or even survive their attacks for a while, so level up first.

Once you’re ready, here are a few top tips to ensure you take down a Furnace Golem:

Use Hefty Fire Pots

If you haven’t been crafting and using pots until now, this is a good time to change that. Hefty Fire Pots can deal huge damage when thrown at the body of the Furnace Golem, potentially making the fight almost trivial if you have enough. And once you’ve taken down one, you’ll earn the materials to start making the even more powerful Hefty Furnace Pots – a win/win.

Make use of Torrent

Many of the Furnace Golem’s attacks are wide AoE attacks or homing, which can be a death sentence on foot. But on Torrent, plenty of these attacks can be jumped over or simply run away from. Dash in and get a few hits on the legs and then dash out again when an attack is coming. It can be a little tedious, but it works.

Attack both legs

Many earlier giant enemies can be staggered by just attacking one of their legs – not the Furnace Golem. If you only attack one leg, you’re going to be waiting a long time for that stagger, so split your attacks between them. Once it’s down, you can get plenty of damage with a crit to the head or you can throw one of your Hefty Fire Pots in for extra damage.

There is an exception to this. Later on, you’ll start facing Armored Furnace Golems. These will take no damage from hits to the legs, so you’ll want to use our next tip instead.

Use high ground and aim for the head

The weak spot of the Furnace Golem is their head and the basket at the top of their body. You can’t reach these from the ground so make use of any high ground near the Golem. Throwing your Pots into the basket will deal much higher damage than just hitting the body, and your spells that hit the head will deal extra damage too.
