  • An average playthrough will take roughly 25-30 hours to beat Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Players beelining the main story and bosses will take closer to 20 hours to beat
  • Completionists will take 35-40, if not much longer depending on how comprehensive they are

One of the most infamous aspects of Elden Ring is its scale. With such a huge world to explore filled with punishing bosses, lengthy quests and deep lore, it’s no surprise that it can take so long to finish the game. So with the DLC out, you might be wondering how long Shadow of the Erdtree is on top of that.

Based on our playthrough of the game, we’ve come up with a range of how long you can expect to spend in the Land of Shadow depending on the way you play the game. So with that, let’s take a look at how many hours it’ll take you to get through Shadow of the Erdtree.

How long does it take to beat Shadow of the Erdtree?

We estimate that it will take the average player between 25-30 hours to complete Shadow of the Erdtree. This assumes that alongside the DLC’s main story, they’ll engage with a fair amount of side content including questing, exploration, finding new weapons and of course, fighting optional bosses.

Players who choose to forego the side content and instead focus entirely on the main story can probably expect to spend closer to 20 hours in the DLC. This is especially true if they have a strong build and can beat most of the bosses fairly quickly, in which case you could potentially shave your time down to 15 hours.

On the other end of the spectrum, completionists who want to see everything the DLC has to offer will likely take 35-40 hours to beat the DLC, if not more. While not being as big as the world in the base game, the DLC still has a huge amount of extra content to explore, and you’ll be sure to find things to keep you busy long beyond even the 40 hour mark.
