With the Shadow of the Erdtree, FromSoft has doubled down on verticality. It’s not just the layout of its legacy dungeons, but also the open-world areas with pretty much every region having lower and upper sections. Among them is Scadu Altus, the sprawling meadowy hills in the north east of the map.

Peering at the map, you’ll spot a lower part. While you’ve likely spent some time galloping off cliffs hoping for a safe landing, there’s only one way to reach the area safely. We’ll walk you through how to reach the lower part of Scadu Altus.

How to get to the lower part of Scadu Altus

The lower part of Scadu Altus is accessed via the Shadow Keep legacy dungeon. If you’ve yet to make it into the dungeon, progress towards it via the front entrance and defeat the Golden Hippopotamus to unlock the Shadow Keep Main Gate Plaza site of grace.

From the site of grace, head west, take out the group of vulgar militiamen, then go up the large staircase. At the top take a right and clear out the militiamen to give you some breathing room. On the north side, look for a small opening in the wall and a ladder leading down. Take the ladder down, head left, then left again under the waterfall to find a secret passageway into a sewer. Follow the path forward until you come to a large drop and a coffin.

Interact with the coffin to trigger a cutscene that will take your tarnished down into the chasm. You’ll come out in the lower part of the Scadu Altus next to the Castle Watering Hole site of grace. Ahead are the Ruins of Unte and a Furnace Golem.

If you press on south to the Recluses’ River Upstream site of grace, you can reach the even lower section via a set of cliffs and platforms. There you’ll reach the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum (where you can fight a boss to get the excellent Rakshasa’s Great Katana). But also, the Darklight Catacombs, which lead into the Abyssal Woods and a remembrance if you can beat the area’s final boss, Midra.
