- Get Dog Coins from treasure chests, junk piles, hostile humans, and the Pal Mimog.
- These can be used to purchase rare items at the Medal Merchant, found in the Desolate Church or the Forgotten Island Church Ruins.
The Sakurajima update brought a new currency for players to earn and spend. Dog Coins can be tricky to find but they can give you some sweet new gear that can make your crafting runs and Pal farming a breeze. There are multiple ways to earn them and yes, you can get them without combat. Read on to learn where you can find Dog Coins and how to spend them.
How to get Dog Coins
As of the Sakurajima update, here’s how you can get Dog Coins fast:
- Collect them from Junk Piles and Treasure Chests scattered across the map. While old regions also have these lying around, I had the most luck on the new Sakurajima Island. Chests from other locations tend to give you regular Gold. You can interact with chests and piles even if you’re riding a Pal so you can nab them before Pals and foes are alerted to your presence.
- Defeating Mimogs or capturing them can give you this resource as well. They can be found anywhere and I found one near the cherry blossom biome in Sakurajima island. Remember that this chest-shaped Pal with dog ears has a comically fast movement speed when disturbed so unleash heavy attacks on it with high-level Pals to take it down fast. We recommend packing some strong guns like the Single-Shot Rifle as well.
- Defeat hostile faction enemies for a chance at earning Dog Coins. This is a rare drop so don’t expect every kill to secure you some money. And it can be a chore on the new island which has level 45+ enemies.
Where can you spend Dog Coins
The new Medal Merchant, found near the Desolate Church or Forgotten Island Church Ruins, will sell you exotic gear for this resource. There’s a bunch of neat accessories in their wares that can permanently buff you and your Pals’ stats. My personal favourite is the Ring of Freight which boosts your carrying weight capabilities. The Pal buffs could be pretty useful in the new PvP arena. Here’s everything you can buy from the Medal Merchant:
