  • Reach Sakurajima Island by heading north from the Icy Wind Island or Forgotten Island fast travel points.
  • We recommend being at least level 42 with level 40 Pals before taking on this island’s occupants.

Palword’s first expansion is almost here and Sakurajima Island promises new Pals, a boss, and a raid to beat. There are plenty of biomes to explore as well, giving you more reasons to hop back in and grind to a new max level. But it’s not instantly made clear that the island is available right away and can be reached without any specific quest. Here’s how you can get started with the new Japan-inspired expansion.

Sakurajima Island location and how to get there

You can quickly reach Sakurajima Island by heading north from the Icy Wind Island or Forgotten Island fast travel point. The new island is a part of the same map as the Palpagos Islands. Either swim or use a Flying Pal to get there. You’ll spot an island with mushrooms, that’s where you need to head to. Watch out for high-level Pals like the frog ninja and mushroom-like Pals.

Sync up with the fast travel point on the coast and you’ll be able to head there whenever you want. You’ll only see a blacked-out map initially, just like your first time exploring the game. It’s on the northwestern side, just north of Icy Wind Island and Forgotten Island. For a more memorable landmark, Sakurajima Island is to the southwest of the Astral Mountains.

Recommended level for Sakurajima Island

We recommend players to be at least level 42 with level 40 Pals to survive on Sakurajima Island. The new island has a mix of level 40-45 and level 50+ Pals in addition to human ninjas who attack you on sight. I surveyed the new environments when I was level 39 and the Pals that roamed about could take me down in a couple of hits. You’ll find some of the best Grass Pals here to add to your collection once you’re ready to take them on. If you’re just starting the game, focus on getting a base set up and level up your team before taking on the new expansion.

While it’s true that not every Pal is aggressive against players and a Flying Pal should keep you from harm’s way, it’s better to grind through the base game before trying your luck on the new expansion’s content. If you’re strong enough, you could set up a base here to take advantage of the Coal and Sulfur sites here. While Sakurajima Island isn’t as large as the original Palpagos Islands, there are several distinct biomes here that reward exploration with chests, items, and Pals to capture. There’s an Arena for Pal PvP on a server but this isn’t on the main island. Palworld’s Sakurajima summer update will be released on June 27, 2024.
