Back in 2016, a book called A Girl on a Train came out. Not too long after, a heavily anticipated book – The Girl on the Train – was released by another author, with an accompanying film not too long after. You can imagine what happened here, but the first book I mentioned was catapulted to global success and topped all of the UK’s bestseller chart – all by accident. The same thing’s happened here. Nexon’s The First Descendant is scheduled for an imminent release, though an old puzzle game from 2016 has now lapped up all of its prospective players, and over 100,000 people are now playing it.

You can see the steep incline players over the course of the past eight years, up from roughly 2,000 to over 128,000 at its peak. The game’s last update was back in 2024, which suggests that the developers – Microids, are pretty happy to keep this game ticking over. I’m sure they’re pretty happy to see the game with this many players in one go.

Nexon’s The First Descendant is set up for a release on July 2nd, and if the numbers that it’s vague name-sake are seeing, it’s going to be a pretty phenomenal hit, especially considering that it takes a lot of mistakes to play the wrong game entirely.

The Descendant is a free to play game – at least for the first episode – and you can probably get through it quite quickly. I’m quite tempted to give it a try too now.
