Delta Force: Hawk Ops is a new free-to-play first-person tactical shooter launching into a Global PC Alpha Test in July. From what we were shown at Summer Games Fest, Delta Force will be a similar sort of title to Insurgency: Sandstorm and Gray Zone Warfare, focusing on realistic action and tactical gameplay. But, there’s more…

It was also revealed that there will be a Black Hawk Down campaign, which has been heavily influenced by the award-winning 2001 Ridley Scott movie. Gameplay showed a team dropping into Mogadishu, Somalia before sweeping through a number of buildings and engaging with enemy forces.

As expected there will be a number of modes available, which include:

  • Havoc Wafare – a 100% remake of the classic Delta Force game
  • Hazard Operations – where you take on missions as part of the 3-person squad and aim to caoture and decide a high value supply called Mandelbrick, before extracting
  • Black Hawk Down – a first-person retelling of Delta Operations, which sees you drop into Mogadishu’ and engage in urban warfare

The official website also confirmed a number of authentic vehicles will be available, ranging from helicopters and all-terrain vehicles to LAV-AAs. Weapons are as expected for the era, featuring state-of-the-art sniper rifles, light machine guns and assault rifles. Players will be able to choose from a number of different operators, which all possess different tactical abilities and gear. One operator, D Wolf, is an assault class who uses smoke grenades and a tactical slide to rush enemy forces. Luna, meanwhile, is a recon class, and can fire a recon arrow to reveal enemy locations. It’s hoped this sort of variation will cater to many different kinds of player.

Delta Force is going to be available on Steam and Epic Game stores, with eventual releases on PlayStation, Xbox, Apple and even Android devices. There’s still no word on a wider release date yet, but we could well see this one sneak in before the end of the year. For those interested in getting involved in the alpha test, you can pre register on the official website and there are a number of pre registration awards for those who sign up.
