  • Diablo 4 Season 5 will be released on August 6, 2024.
  • The upcoming season will have a new Eternal questline named ‘The Eyes of the Enemy.’
  • Season 5 will introduce an exciting roguelite mode called Infernal Hordes.

Blizzard has finally given us a preview of what we can expect once it releases Diablo 4 Season 5 in August. Typical fresh content and meta changes abound, but the most exciting addition is the new roguelite mode, Infernal Hordes. Like Hades or Slay the Spire, once you finish a wave, it’ll present you with three Boons and Banes called Infernal Offers that’ll modify your run for better… or worse. So, without further ado, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of Season 5.

When is the Diablo 4 Season 5 release date?

Blizzard will release Diablo 4 Season 5 on August 6, 2024. Adam Fletcher, community lead for Diablo, also revealed in a Campfire Chat that Season 5 will be slightly shorter than previous ones (only running until the Vessel of Hatred release date), so it should take place sooner rather than later.

Expected Diablo 4 Season 5 PTR start time

Upcoming changes in Diablo 4 Season 5

The Season 5 update is bringing plenty of new content to its hellish fray, including new modes, enemies, an eternal questline, and more. As we mentioned before, the biggest upcoming change is the new roguelite mode called Infernal Hordes. But that’s not the only addition you should expect. Blizzard has also teased the introduction of new Legendaries, Uniques, and items, so there’s plenty in store before the long-awaited DLC drops in October.

Diablo 4 Season 5 ‘The Eyes of the Enemy’ Eternal questline

Season 5 will notably feature a new questline that’s going to be available in both Seasonal and Eternal realms. Its plot takes place directly after the main story and will be part of the game even after the season concludes. The new questline will be available starting on World Tier 3 in Hawezar, and you’ll need to complete it to access the exciting roguelite mode, Infernal Hordes. Once you’ve finished all the quests, you’ll have permanently unlocked it on all your characters moving forward.

Diablo 4 Season 5 Infernal Hordes

A roguelite mode in Diablo 4 is the last thing we thought we’d see in Sanctuary, but here we are. According to Blizzard’s Season 5 blog post, Infernal Hordes “is an activity where you slay hordes while earning Burning Aether to unlock powerful weapons and rewards.”

Infernal Hordes will feature continuous, time-limited waves lasting 90 seconds each, after which it’ll give you three Infernal Offers (think of them like Slay the Spire’s Relics) to choose from. Once you successfully advance through all the waves in a tier, you’ll get to face three Fell Council members (Elite demons with unique abilities). Afterward, you can use the Burning Aether you’ve collected on Spoils of Hell, which can contain equipment, materials, gold, or Greater Equipment (items with a guaranteed Greater Affix).

Much like Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes has eight tiers you can access using Infernal Compasses. You can earn these Compasses from typical endgame activities, such as Bosses, Helltides, and Whispers. You’ll also be given a Compass once you complete the new Eternal questline.

According to Blizzard’s description, “Each Infernal Compass tier increases the number of waves starting at five for Tiers I-III, increasing until a maximum of 10 waves with a Tier VIII Infernal Compass.” As you progress, monsters will also become more difficult to take down, though, of course, you’ll have the chance to get better loot by taking them on.
