In 2020, live-streaming service Twitch made waves after banning Herschel “Guy” Beahm, better known as Dr DisRespect, seemingly without reason. Recently, however, two former Twitch employees came forward to shed more light on the controversy and reveal exactly what caused the popular video game content creator to be temporarily removed from the platform. Following the revelation and a wave of backlash that caused Midnight Society to cut ties with its co-founder, Beahm has provided a response to the allegations surrounding his Twitch ban.

In a lengthy post on Twitter/X, Beahm initially apologized “to everyone in [his] community as well as those close to [him], [his] team, and everyone at Midnight Society game studio.” “Everyone has been wanting to know why I was banned from Twitch, but for reasons outside of my control, I was not allowed to say anything for the last several years,” he continued. “Now that two former Twitch employees have publicly disclosed the accusations, I can now tell you my side of the story regarding the ban.”

“Were there Twitch Whisper messages with an individual back in 2017? The answer is yes,” Beahm admitted. “Were there real intentions behind these messages[?] The answer is absolutely not. These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more.” “Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual,” he added, echoing the “no wrongdoing was acknowledged” sentiment he’s shared in recent posts.

Beahm then stated that he had to go through a “lengthy arbitration regarding a civil dispute” with Twitch. For those unfamiliar, this dispute involved Beahm suing Twitch for monetary damages after revealing he knew why Twitch issued the ban. However, he clarified that this was not “a criminal case,” and no criminal charges were brought against him.

Beahm ended his post by announcing that he’ll be “taking an extended vacation with [his] family as mentioned on stream and [he’s] coming back with a heavy weight off his shoulders.” “They want me to disappear…yeah f*cking right,” he finished, indicating his plans to continue streaming despite the wave of backlash he’s received in recent weeks.
