If you thought Shadow of the Erdtree was difficult, try doing it at level one. That’s what YouTuber LastDarkHope has been doing, and they’ve been seeing nothing but success so far.

Elden Ring has a few different metrics for power. You have your Soul Level / Rune Level, but you also can upgrade your equipment to bolster your offense and defence. It’s recommended that you start Shadow of the Erdtree at level 150, alongside the very minimum of 50 Vigor. Claims that the expansion is too difficult are clearly unfounded, especially considering that you can take on butt-kicking bosses like the Blackgaol Knight with nothing but a greatsword.

Attempting this without Scadutree Fragments is near impossible, so LastDarkHope has been doing so, though something tells me this doesn’t negate any achievements. They have been buffed recently though. The reality is that using these, at such a low level, is a pretty non-invasive buff, especially considering you will most likely get one tapped by most bosses if you’re not careful. To top it off, even using the best weapons in Elden Ring won’t deal much damage without investment in your strength and dex attributes, and invoking magic without enough MP will drain your Cerulean Flask faster than anything.

LastDarkHope’s tenacity has earned world firsts against bosses such as Golden Hippopotamus and Black Knight Edredd, amongst others, though their channel is still only small. You will be able to find LastDarkHope streaming, though clips of their exploits can also be found on the YouTube channel.

I couldn’t even imagine approaching the Elden Ring DLC without the Greatsword of Damnation and Blackgaol Armour, so the fact that this utterly bonkers player is doing it all at the base level is nothing short of impressive.

It should be noted that not all of Elden Ring’s biggest and baddest bosses have been felled by LastDarkHope, and you have to imagine that the likes of the final boss, Messmer, and Bayle the Dread will provide a meaty challenge.
