Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has just seen its reviews coming in, with our very own handing it full marks. Judging by the Metacritic score, it seems that most other critics have had a similar response, especially since the DLC is now the highest rated game of the year.

Currently sitting with a 95/100, Shadow of the Erdtree is the highest rated title of the year by far. Realistically, it’s not been a year of major releases so far, though the competition of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth are formidable.

It seems this is the year of the DLC too, with the Destiny 2: Final Shape expansions sitting in third place with a score of 92.

The Elden Ring DLC overshadowed the Final Fantasy VII Remake to take the top spot, and with only a few days until it releases, players will finally be able to experience this themselves.

What I’m interested to find out is whether the Elden Ring DLC can even be considered for a Game of the Year award. With the sheer scope and size of the expansion alongside the two years spent in development, there’s surely a case for it to re-appear. This could be the first time that a game wins multiple Game of the Year awards across different years too.

Metacritic’s score for the game has been awarded by 52 different critic reviews, with more arriving in the next few days.
