Elden Ring’s DLC has now launched, and the Shadow of the Erdtree is finally here. Having spent nearly two years in development, this is FromSoftware’s first and final expansion to the world of the Lands Between. Our review labels it as ‘simply sensational,’ and finds little criticism of the work, yet despite this, there is a prevailing bug that is causing issues for players on the Steam Deck specifically, with severe complications as a result.

As noted by FromSoftware themselves: “A Steam Deck related issue has been identified and a hotfix is being worked on … leaving your Steam Deck inactive for more than five minutes may stop the game from accepting inputs,” and they have also said that the “date and time for the hotfix will be announced shortly.”

The issue relating to Steam Deck inactivity seems to snowball into further issues. While FromSoftware suggested that this is only really an issue if you leave your Deck inactive for five minutes or more, players have been responding with their own experiences. Some have said that they have lost input control half-way through a boss-fight, while others have suggested that the DLC is suffering from significantly worse performance on Valve’s handheld.

The inactivity issue is also followed by a warning of “Inappropriate activity detected. Unable to start in offline mode,” which is essentially a ban from the FromSoftware servers. Others have said that they “need to know” if the ‘inappropriate behaviour’ issue is being worked on.

The issue with the Elden Ring’s server bans is likely due to anti-cheat finding issues with the game running on Linux. It’s quite mysterious that even though Elden Ring has been working just fine on Steam Deck for the two years it has been out, the DLC has now awoken new issues.

In a similar vein, the launch of the game also paired with various issues for PlayStation players who were unable to load the DLC for hours after the release time, while others some have still not even been able to get online. To add to matters, there have been issues with the DLC hampering frame-rate too.
