There is no doubt that Fortnite has reshaped the gaming landscape. The battle royale title is in its seventh year, yet still has millions of players on a daily basis. As a free-to-play game, it relies on the sale of cosmetic items to be profitable. While some of these cosmetics might be too much, they perfectly fit Fortnite’s style.

Call of Duty, another popular game, recently tried to take a page out of Fortnite’s book. Activision added the “Extra Crispy” bundle, allowing players to fry chicken on the go! As fun as this sounds, the move received a lot of backlash from the community, and many players even blamed Fortnite for ruining the popular shooter.

Over the past six and a half years, Epic Games has released thousands of cosmetic items to Fortnite. Many of these cosmetics are intended for younger audiences, and some of them are simply memes. Considering that Fortnite’s art style is unique, it’s no surprise that skins like Peely and Fishstick have become very popular.

Unfortunately, Call of Duty isn’t a game that’s perfect for “meme” cosmetics. The “Extra Crispy” bundle is certainly something that would work well in Fortnite, but it just looks weird in Activision’s shooter. Due to this, it’s no surprise that many players complain about it.

“The damage Fortnite has unintentionally done to the multiplayer game aesthetic is unrepairable,” X (formerly Twitter) user KelskiYT posted. The post has received thousands of reactions and was seen by more than 4 million users.

The X user clarified that they have no issue with Fortnite, as it fits the game style. However, the post was mostly about the domino effect Epic Games’ title has caused in the gaming industry.

Unfortunately, while this type of cosmetic item works perfectly well in the 2017 battle royale title, it simply has no place in many other games. Call of Duty is supposed to be a realistic shooter, so frying chicken on a gun certainly doesn’t fit its style. However, it will be interesting to see how Activision will react to the backlash and if CoD will go back to its old ways.
