If you were disappointed when Lightsabers got vaulted the last time they were in the game, then we’ve got some good news for you. With the latest Fortnite x Star Wars collaboration going live on May 3rd, the iconic weapons have made a return and we couldn’t be happier about it.

This comes with the release of patch v29.40, bringing an end to the previous Avatar event and replacing it with a new Star Wars one. It’s come out just one day before May 4, otherwise known as Star Wars day, and gives players a nice change of pace in the run up to the start of Season 3.

If you have a particular favourite Lightsaber in mind, you might be a little disappointed, as the only one actually returning in this update in Darth Vader’s Lightsaber, meaning the Empire’s head honcho is back in the game as well.

But while Lightsabers are old news for Fortnite players, there is a brand-new weapon coming to the game, with Chewbacca and his Wookiee Bowcaster joining the fight. As well as providing the unique weapon, Chewbacca can also be recruited to help you take down enemy players.

As expected with any Fortnite update, there are a bunch of Star Wars themed cosmetics in the Item Shop, with skins for Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Boba Fett and more. As well as that, there’s a couple of great items to go along with them, like a backpack with Yoda sitting inside.

There’s also a new set of quests for players to complete, replacing the outgoing ones from the previous Avatar: Elements event. These include a few quest focused around using the Bowcaster and Lightsaber to rack up a few kills in-game.

The event is currently scheduled to last for around 10 days, so if you can’t jump in straight away, there’s plenty of time left for you to do so. But for everyone else, it’s time to grab your Lightsabers and chase down some Victory Royales.
