You’ll have to grind out levels the old-fashioned way in Elden Ring now that FromSoftware patched the falling rune glitch in its latest update. For those unfamiliar, the falling rune glitch required you to jump off specific high points on the map while constantly swinging your weapon astride Torrent. This would have typically earned you anywhere from 50,000 to 250,000 runes. Now, though, hopping off these peaks will only lead to your untimely doom, as several people are now starting to discover.

Over on Reddit, some players, like u/OK_You_4643, found that the Elden Ring falling rune glitch stopped functioning after FromSoftware released its Shadow of the Erdtree patch last night. Of course, this fix seemed inevitable since gaining (and often losing) runes by defeating the enemies found throughout the map is part and parcel of the FromSoftware experience. However, u/Nu2Th15 pointed out that the dev team may have removed it since players could use it to kill Mohg “without actually fighting him.”

A quick look at Bandai Namco’s official patch notes also revealed the specific change that removed the falling rune glitch. According to the blog post, the developers “fixed a bug where the spectral steed did not trigger a death fall under certain circumstances.” Previously, FromSoftware had only patched the falling rune glitch in certain areas. With this latest change, you can no longer attempt it anywhere, so don’t try it unless you want to see Torrent suffer.

Despite FromSoftware removing the effortless, zero-grind method, though, all should still be forgiven since Shadow of the Erdtree continues to gain plaudits from casual players and professionals alike. But if you’re still rushing to reach all the requirements to play it, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.
