There’s been far too much talk of an Elden Ring film adaptation to ignore it. The run up to the expansion’s launch saw Hidetaka Miyazaki openly talking about the possibility, going as far to say it’s not off the cards, on multiple occasions. George R.R. Martin, multi-Nebula award winning authout of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, also responsible for the foundations of Elden Ring’s lore, has recently published a blog post with some witty comments regarding an adaptation.

Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on Elden Ring… I have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?

George R.R. Martin’s NOt a Blog.

I can’t help but read George R.R. Martin’s words beyond their face value. He is, after all, the man behind a series swathing in scope, packed full of foreshadowing, subtlety, irony, and logic. It seems almost too simple to read this denial as anything but an admission. In all fairness, GRRM hasn’t given us a whiff of Elden Ring’s possible adaptations, unlike Miyazaki.

Recently, the FromSoftware had said that he doesn’t “see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example,” without much prompting from The Guardian. Having been brought up on multiple occasions now with Elden Ring so heavily dominating gaming, there’s certainly a glimmer of cheek to it all. Miyazaki continues that “that’s where a strong partner would come into play,” and there’s no doubt that the creator behind the global sensation that is Game of Thrones knows exactly where to find one.

I will say, if George R.R. Martin was to sink his hooks into an Elden Ring adaptation – I would entirely lose faith that we’re ever going to see The Winds of Winter finished.
