Helldivers 2 is a fantastic multiplayer experience, and it has been arguably the biggest success story of the year so far. Fans have absolutely loved their time with the game, but lately things have gotten a little antsy thanks to the lack of updates. This is an intentional choice on behalf of Arrowhead, and a community manager has clarified that Helldivers 2 fans should not be expecting the next update to be the “mother of all patches”.

Arrowhead has made it known that they currently have ‘no date‘ set for the next update. While there is no scheduled launch day, they have been transparent with the community telling fans that patches have been purposefully slowed down so the devs can better test balance changes before releasing them to the public. Arrowhead’s new CEO has also informed fans that they are listening to player feedback provided you’re not yelling at the devs to jump off a cliff.

The player count has alarmingly declined, and many players feel it is due to the lack of new updates and content. We don’t know exactly when the next update will finally arrive, but there is plenty to anticipate even if the community has been warned not to expect the “mother of all patches” to fix every complaint.

Helldivers 2 dev clarifies next update

Helldivers 2 community manager, Twinbeard, previously told fans on May 24th that Arrowhead has never called the next patch a “balance update”. This was reiterated to fans to avoid sending out the “wrong signals”.

While there is no ETA for when the next update will arrive, Twinbeard assured fans that it is “simmering nicely”. All of this was communicated to fans on the series’ official Discord channel.

In telling fans that they have never called the next patch a “balance update,” some players mistakenly took the community manager’s message as a disclaimer that there will be zero balance changes included. This alarmed some players, but Twinbeard has clarified what they actually meant by responding to a player’s concerns.

In response to a player’s concerns about no incoming balance changes at all, community manager, Twinbeard, provided the following message:

“I didn’t say there won’t be balancing or just bugfixes. There’ll be a little bit of everything there for sure. What I wanted was to try to avoid the next patch being perceived as “the mother of all patches” or a dedicated balance patch due to us taking more time for this than previous patches. I hope that’s fairly clear – or as clear as something can be when you can’t go into detail.”

The message from the community manager clarifies that we will be getting balance updates, but it is not a “dedicated balance patch” nor is it “the mother of all patches” that will fix every complaint within the community. This gives players some hope while also informing fans to keep expectations realistic.

As for what we can expect from updates in the future, the developer has said that they are working on a solution to help players kicked by troll lobby leaders. Arrowhead is also looking into adding an emote wheel with more emotes, and the developer has told fans that they believe a fix for the spear complaint is coming.

We mustn’t also forget the Illuminate is bound to make their presence known. An upcoming mission brings us closer to the Illuminate’s arrival, and leaks have shown a four armed enemy from the Illuminate along with a new weapon belonging to the alien race.
