What would make Helldivers 2 better, you ask? Bug and crash fixes, especially ones related to the Spear (which the developers recently introduced), are always welcome improvements. But an even better change is one that Arrowhead Game Studios added with its latest patch: a Japanese dub that turns every mission into an intergalactic anime episode.

As part of the Helldivers 2 01.000.403 update patch notes, AGS made Japanese language voiceovers available globally on the PS5 and PC. And unsurprisingly, some Helldivers 2 players wasted no time switching over to the Japanese dub, with those on Reddit already celebrating the fact they can give the enemies of Managed Democracy a daily dose of concentrated “omae wa mou shindeiru.”

To give players an idea of what it would sound like, u/FatherMiyamoto recently shared a clip of the game’s opening sequence with the new voiceover, and the result did not disappoint. Although it certainly lacks the satirical nature of the game’s English dialogue, the Japanese dub offers a completely different, albeit exaggerated, version that any anime (or Like a Dragon) fan would undoubtedly get a kick out of. After all, it’s not every day you get to have your Galactic War adventure told by a Kazuma Kiryu-like narrator.

However, it is worth noting that some of the hilarious exclamations and side comments you hear with the English dub aren’t included in the Japanese voiceover. This, unfortunately, means you won’t get to hear a ‘Liber-tea’ related line whenever you throw a grenade into an unsuspecting bug horde. But lack of witty one-liners aside, the Japanese dub still gives Helldivers 2 players a unique, over-the-top alternative that makes up for its lack of humorous delivery with overemphasized, sensei-like commentary.
