After months of malfunctioning in-game, Helldivers 2 dev Arrowhead Game Studios finally fixed the Superior Packing Methodology (SPM) ship upgrade. What followed soon after was predictable: the complaints abated, and the community rejoiced; gone were the days when you’d call in a Resupply stratagem only for it to provide partial ammo replenishment. But celebrations were short-lived. Some players soon realized that SPM had another flaw that could potentially cause innumerable rifts between teammates.

Some players on Reddit pointed out that SPM only works as intended if the player who calls in the Resupply stratagem has it unlocked. If the soldier who calls it in has not purchased the upgrade, it will not fully replenish your supplies. You can probably see how this would be a problem in public lobbies. Hosts would start monitoring who calls in Resupply stratagems; players could potentially call out others for not having SPM unlocked. Insults may be thrown, soldiers would be kicked, and chaos ensues.

Of course, this is all hypothetical, but it can’t be denied that SPM’s current design is an issue, especially since it’s a shared stratagem. u/eden_not_ttv also pointed out that “even in a lobby full of friends who aren’t a**holes to each other, the added bookkeeping of ensuring that only SPM players [can] call resupply is not interesting or fun.”

Naturally, a potential fix to this issue would be to provide full ammo replenishment to players who have already unlocked SPM. Another would be to allow it to offer a full restock to all players in the squad as long as one person already has it purchased. With the Helldivers 2 devs on summer break, however, it seems unlikely that another Superior Packing Methodology fix will be arriving soon.
