There are many weapons to choose from in Helldivers 2 and each has its pros and cons. Oftentimes some weapons get overlooked in favor of what is considered the meta. But, trying out these weapons can surprise you and turn out to be the perfect weapon for your loadout.

U/TheVulong took to Reddit to discuss the EAT and Recoilless Rifle and their effectiveness against larger enemy vehicles such as the Gunship and Dropships, calling for them to receive a buff saying,

“EAT/Recoilless should one shot gunships even if you don’t hit the engines. Spear should down a dropship even if you don’t hit the engines. Gunships should not be this difficult to get rid of given their obnoxious nature. If you’re stuck without an AP4+ support weapon, you have practically no way to destroy them. And even if you do have something on hand, it’s extremely infuriating to see them take a direct hit to the cockpit without any effect.”

Gunships appear on the higher-difficulty Automaton missions and act differently from the Dropships that deliver enemies to the map. The Gunship will chase you down and try and take you out and it can be incredibly frustrating to deal with not because they’re difficult but because of their sheer numbers and relentlessness. They continue the post by saying,

“This is the kind of enemy we currently have no stratagem solution for either(orbitals/airstrike wise) so i think it would be fair if either their engine health got lower or their cockpit armour was brought down one level to at least be somewhat vulnerable to primary fire.”

The Recoilless Rifle is a Stratagem I always carry when fighting the Automatons and choose it over the Quasar Cannon and EAT due to its multiple quick reloads and it still packs the necessary punch needed to take down large vehicles such as Dropships and Gunships. If you’ve overlooked it in favor of the Quasar Cannon because that is what many players talk about, give it a try and you may just like it, but don’t forget to grab the backpack.

If you’ve been struggling with taking out these higher-level enemies, you may need to optimize your loadout. To do this, we highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide.
