Helldivers 2 is one of the most popular games of 2024, selling over 12 million copies and seeing hundreds of thousands of players jump in every day. But, it isn’t without its share of ups and downs, and recent controversies have put some people off trying it out. So, should you buy Helldivers 2?

U/Witterallyminosprime took to Reddit to ask the community whether Helldivers 2 was still worth buying following its recent decline in player count and the issues plaguing the game.

Many players took to the replies to share their views on the game right now, with U/DonadDoland saying “Just get the 40 version, the warbond content isn’t worth the extra money. You can earn the stuff by playing.” This is the best option for most players, outside of the Super Citizen title there isn’t anything worth the extra cost as the armor is no different in stats to many others available in-game, and with there now being multiple Warbonds, gaining access to the first one isn’t as worth it as it once was. You can instead just purchase it or acquire the Super Credits in-game as you unlock the more recent ones.

U/TheMajor106 shared their thoughts on the game and why people Helldivers should still purchase it saying “Helldivers 2 is a great game, still as fun as it was at launch. Still experiencing weapon balance and enemy spawn issues but the dev team is constantly working on it and mostly transparent. It’s a great grab at full price and it isn’t going anywhere. The community is mostly friendly with the occasional toxic player you’ll run into but that’s every game. Join the fight for managed democracy and dive in!”

U/Drenklar shared a similar opinion saying “The game is worth getting, it’s fun with friends but can be insanely frustrating with randoms. However, the game still has a bucket of bugs, and not small bugs, major ones, like crashing constantly, even if you have a powerful machine the game crashes from time to time. Arrowhead also likes to add stuff constantly, and every time they do they break the game. It’s a roller coaster. But overall, for 40 bucks you’ll get 200+ hours of fun. There’s no real story, only orders from high command telling you to shoot robots or bugs. No story, just big guns, big explosions, big monsters.”

When it comes to purchasing the game and whether you will like it, it is all subjective. But, if something has grabbed your attention enough to make you want to consider it then it likely is going to be worth it for you. As with any live service title, Helldivers 2 has had its share of ups and downs, and that will continue further as time goes on.

I cover Helldivers 2 on a near-daily basis and play the game almost as frequently too and still have fun with it. One criticism, although it is by design, is that it fails to tell many basic commands, as well as doesn’t clue you into many essential tips. Helldivers 2 has an incredibly engaged community online so you will be able to get all of the help that you need. And you can always search through our extensive to find what you need, just like our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide to help you optimize your loadouts so you can effectively bring democracy to the Automatons and Terminids.
