One major criticism of Helldivers 2 is that it doesn’t teach you how to play the game, with many players either discovering a mechanic by accident or learning it from other players. Despite the game entering its sixth month of release, there are still many players who don’t understand some core mechanics of the game.
U/Puzzleheaded_Yak478 took to Reddit to detail a recent mission where a player was kicked for calling in extraction early saying,
“Host kicked the player who called the shuttle while we were far away. I tried to explain to him that the shuttle would not leave until there was no one in it. The next second, I was kicked out of the game. I understand that people may not know some mechanics of the game and make mistakes because of this. But why kick for trying to explain?”
Two of the most unknown mechanics is that Samples are split among all players, meaning that if you extract with a Sample in your possession then all of your teammates will receive it too.
The other mechanic is that the Evacuation Shuttle won’t take off unless a player is inside it, or the timer expires. This means you can call it down and then head off the continue to search for Samples and other resources and can board it at any time. But, once one player boards it a 20-second countdown will begin before it takes off. One disadvantage of doing this is that you won’t get the bonus two minutes once the mission timer reaches 0 and it forces extraction. Instead, once the timer reaches 0 the 20-second countdown will begin.
