Collecting resources is a major part of Helldivers 2 as these can be used to unlock new Stratagems, Ship Modules, and the latest Warbond to unlock weapons, armor, and other items. To unlock Ship Modules, players need to collect Samples in missions, but some of these only become available during higher difficult missions, which can make them difficult to acquire if the player is lower skilled.
U/Ol_Scamp took to Reddit to share a concept that would allow Samples to be exchanged for ones of different rarity.
Currently, Common Samples can be found across all difficulties, Rare Samples become available from difficulty 4, and Super Samples can be found from difficulty 6 onwards. With Ship Module Sample requirements scaling as the levels progress, it can mean that lesser skilled players are unable to unlock these perks if they are unable to complete missions at higher difficulties.
Having the ability to exchange Common or Rare Samples for Super Samples would make the higher level Ship Modules more accessible to all players. But, it can also go the other way as some higher skilled players are finding that they don’t have enough Rare Samples to unlock the new upgrades, with u/xxInsanex saying “Funny thing about samples when you start playing the harder difficulties rares become the biggest bottleneck. When i was on my last set of ship modules i had enough super rares in the pocket for 3 upgrades meanwhile i was struggling for rares because upgrades require the same amount of rares as commons for whatever reason.”
This would be a great idea for Arrowhead Game Studios to implement to make the unlockables more accessible, which could help with completing higher difficulty missions as the perks from the Ship Modules could make them manageable enough.
