It came as a surprise to Xbox fans when earlier this week it was announced that Tango Gameworks, the studio behind Hi-Fi Rush, and three other studios would be closed down by Microsoft. This comes as the first closure of a Bethesda-owned studio since Microsoft purchased ZeniMax in 2021.

Following the announcement, the gaming community came out in support of Hi-Fi Rush, praising the developers for creating one of the best Xbox titles in the past decade. A PS5 port of the game was released in March 2024, and a physical release by Limited Run Games is still planned to be released soon.

According to Steamdb, so far this week, Hi-Fi Rush has seen an influx of 2,497 positive reviews on Steam. Typically the game receives between 50-70 positive reviews per week. Hi-Fi Rush now has an overall Steam review rating of 97.46%, putting it in the ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ category. This is in contrast to Helldivers 2, which saw the rating tank to ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ following Sony’s decision to force players to link a PSN account, while also restricting access by 180 countries.

Although it will likely make no difference in Microsoft’s decision to close Tango Gameworks, it is still good to see the community come together to praise Hi-Fi Rush, which received universal critical acclaim upon release, even if just to show the developers that their work is appreciated by the community. The recent decision to close Tango Gameworks and three other Bethesda-owned studios has led to many calling for the Xbox CEO Phil Spencer to resign from the company, as well as create fear that more studios could face the chopping block in the future, including Ninja Theory who is about to release Hellblade 2 on May 21st.

If you have yet to play Hi-Fi Rush, it is currently offered as part of the Humble Bundle Monthly Choice for $11.99. The bundle also includes Yakuza: Like A Dragon, Steel Rising, Loddlenaut, King of the Castle, Bravery and Greed, Amanda the Adventurer, and Mediterranea Inferno.
