Yesterday, the Metal Gear Solid Delta release date was posted by Gamestop. An accident, sure, but November 17th had been cited as the day we get to experience the Unreal Engine remake of Snake Eater for the first time.

A recent tweet redacts that information: “Our previous pre-order post on Metal Gear Solid Delta had an incorrect release date,” before saying that the actual date will come from Konami instead.

Gamestop on Twitter: "Our previous pre-order post on Metal Gear Solid Delta had an incorrect release date.

More information on the game's official release will come from Konami. You can still pre-order your copy today."
Gamestop’s backtrack tweet.

The original release date for the Snake Eater remake had been set for a Q4 this year, though it was not far off at all. It’s unlikely that Gamestop’s originally tweeted release date was plucked out of thin air, and was likely a preliminary or placeholder date. This means we can expect Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater to launch at a similar time this year.

Konami is simultaneously looking to continue working on the Master Collection, having recently apologized for its sorry state. With Noriaki Okamura taking the helm on both projects, there’s a good chance that we could see Delta delayed slightly while it focuses on bringing the remasters up to scratch first.

Gamestop’s ‘incorrect’ release date is also – likely not a coincidence – the same date that the original Metal Gear Solid 3 launched on. Even if that date has been redacted, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it won’t still come out on that date. I mean, after all, this is Metal Gear we’re talking about. Misinformation is at the heart of this series, and a misleading release date is very on-brand.

In all seriousness, pre-orders for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater are now live. Though we don’t know when exactly it’s coming, assume that it’s going to be towards the tail-end of this year.
