What is the Captain Series in MLB The Show 23? San Diego Studio’s MLB The Show 23 has been out for months now, and many fans have been enjoying all the great modes this latest installment has to offer. With loads of new content and features to soak in, it can be a bit overwhelming when deciding what to play or prioritize when loading into MLB The Show 23. But for Diamond Dynasty fans, it’s a pretty straightforward affair, particularly with the ongoing releases of the Captain Series players.

As we know, Team Affinity is designed for those looking to assemble theme teams in Diamond Dynasty, and in the process, maximize how much they can elevate everyones potential on it. Well the Captain Series works hand-in-hand with just that. Honoring a series of different baseball players from all 30 MLB teams, every one of the Captain Series players come with three different tiers, each providing specific boosts once unlocked for that captain.

With Tier 3 providing the best skill attribute boosts, players will need to complete the collection requirements for every captain in order to unlock each tiers’ set of boosts. Fans can have one Hitting Captain and one Pitching Captain, and can mix and match players from different teams.

For those who are trying to keep up with all the new players being released or might be loading into MLB The Show 23 for the first time, you might be wondering which players are included in the Captain Series? MLB The Show 23 Captain Series Players

MLB The Show 23’s Diamond Dynasty has a handful of different areas where you can secure Captain Series players. The main set of Captains can be acquired by completing the Season 1, Season 2, and Season 3 Divisions from the Team Affinity Program. A second, and much smaller group of Captain Series stars was available in the no-longer-active Season 1 Reward Path as well.

Moreover, should you have pre ordered the game prior to the early access period, you received an exclusive Captains Choice Pack, which presents a whole different selection of Captains, including former legends of the sport.

With over 100 Captains Series players available from Seasons 1, 2, and now 3, most Captains come with a 92 overall rating and all have skill attributes that you can elevate upon meeting their specific tier requirements. So for example, if you have Derek Jeter’s Captain Series card, you will need to collect five Captain Series hitters to unlock his Tier 1 Boost of +5 Contract vs R, +5 Contract vs L, and +5 Batting Clutch.

Each Captain’s Tier Boosts are uniquely different though. So be sure to choose wisely when deciding which ones you want to prioritize and work towards as you begin collecting their corresponding player items. Season 3 Captain Series Players

MLB The Show 23 released its latest Set 3 Captains Series players with the launch of Season 3 on July 7. As you could have guessed, there’s a series of new Captains players can pursue, and we’re here to guide you with where you can find them and how to acquire them.

Team Affinity Captains

The largest set of new Captain Series players can be found in the latest Season 3 Team Affinity Program. Unlike the previous two Team Affinity Captain Series players, the new items from Set 3 all come with 95 overall ratings, making them significantly better than most of the previous.

To unlock any of these new players, fans will need to complete each Season 3 Team Affinity Division’s corresponding missions, moments, conquest, showdown, and more to secure the Captain Choice Packs along each’s reward path. June Monthly Awards Program Captains

MLB The Show 23 Season 3 launched on July 7, and with it, arrived its new June Monthly Awards Program in Diamond Dynasty. As soon as you enter the new program, you will be able to spot two new Set 3 Captain Series players.

Once you reach Tiers 1 and 2 of the June Monthly Awards Program, you will unlock the following two 95 overall Captain Series players in MLB The Show 23:

• Charlie Blackmon (RF) – Rockies
• Ron Guidry (SP) – Yankees

To take advantage of these two new Captains, fans will need to meet their collection requirements, which consists of having June Monthly Awards Program players.

Season 2 Captain Series Players

Team Affinity Captains

When Season 2 launched, MLB The Show 23 released several new Set 2 Team Affinity Captain Series players in Diamond Dynasty. In order to maintain the relevance and importance of the Set 1 Team Affinity Captains, the Set 2 Team Affinity selection comes with positional Captain items that each team didn’t have in Season 1. In other words, if your favorite team had a Hitting Captain in Season 1, they now received a Pitching Captain in Season 2, and vice versa.

Set 2 Captains Choice Pack Players

On Friday, May 19, MLB The Show 23 decided to release an all-new Set 2 Captains Choice Pack in The Shop, which had eight 95 overall new Captains to choose from. When the Set 2 Captains Choice Pack went live, fans had the opportunity to purchase up to three of them at a cost of 30,000 Stubs per pack. Upon purchasing each pack, fans could have selected one of the eight Captains available inside.

On that note, here’s a look at all the Captain Series players you could have unlocked from the Set 2 Captains Choice Pack in MLB The Show 23.

Since the Set 2 Captains Choice Pack is no longer available in the Pack Market, all of these 95 overall Captains can only be located in the Community Marketplace.

June Topps Now Program Captains

On June 15, MLB The Show 23 released their second week of June Topps Now Program players. And with the drop, came a new June Topps Now Captains Choice Pack that contains a couple of great Captain Series items. Unlike the previous April and May Topps Now Captain Series players, the two from June come with 95 overall ratings. We list the two new Captains here:

• Corey Knebel (CP) – Brewers

In order to unlock the new June Topps Now Captains Choice pack, fans will have to progress their way through the reward path by completing missions and moments. As soon as you collect 26 Program Stars, you will be able to choose one of the two June Topps Now Captains inside the choice pack.

The second June Topps Now Captains Series choice pack, which went live with the third June Topps Now program release on last Friday, can be unlocked at Tier 28, which requires you to gather 56 Program Stars.

May Topps Now Program Captains

Along with the second week of May Topps Now Program players introduced to MLB The Show 23, comes a May Topps Now Captains Choice pack that contains two special new 92 overall diamond players:

• Tyler O’Neill (RF) – Cardinals
• Wade Miley (SP) – Reds

To unlock the May Topps Now Captains Choice pack, you will need to progress your way through the reward path by completing missions and moments. Once you collect 34 Program Stars, you will unlock the first of two May Topps Now Captains Choice packs. The second choice pack can be secured once you reach 66 Program Stars.

Similarly to that of the April Topps Now Captains, O’Neill and Miley have player collection tier requirements tied to the May Topps Now Program players. So if you’re after their Captain tier boosts, you will need May Topps Now Program players.

May Monthly Awards Program Captains

On June 7, MLB The Show 23 released its brand new May Monthly Awards Program in Diamond Dynasty. Upon entering the May Monthly Awards Program, fans can unlock two new Set 2 Captain Series players. And just like the April Monthly Awards Captains, these two Captains come with 95 overall ratings as well.

As soon as you reach Tiers 3 and 4 of the May Monthly Awards Program, you will be able to unlock the following two Captain Series players in MLB The Show 23:

• Eddie Rosario (LF) – Twins
• Blake Treinen (CP) – Athletics

In order to maximize these two new Captains, fans will need to meet their collection requirements, which consist of collecting May Monthly Awards Program players.

All Gold Everything Mini Season Captains

Along with the Team Affinity Captain Series players that were released in Season 2, arrived two unique Set 2 Captains, both of which can be unlocked by completing the Mini Season mode, ‘All Gold Everything.’ In this Mini Season mode, fans need to build a team of all gold and common players. Upon doing so, they will then need to complete the Mini Season and win the Championship in order to unlock the following two Gold Overall Set 2 Captains:

• Paul Goldschmidt (1B) – Cardinals
• Kevin Gausman (SP) – Blue Jays

Both Goldschmidt and Gausman have the standard 92 overall ratings, and come with collection requirements that consist of having 80-84 overall rated players. Should you not be interested in completing the All Gold Everything Mini Season, you can find these new Captains in the Community Marketplace as well.

Future Stars Series Program Captains

On June 23, MLB The Show 23 introduced a new Future Stars Series Program that just so happens to come with two new Captain Series Diamond players along its reward path. With both available at Tiers 26 and 28, here’s a look at the two newest 95 overall Captain Series Diamond players fans can acquire in the Future Stars Series Program:

• Kyle Tucker (RF) – Astros
• Michael Kopech (SP) – White Sox

To unlock both of these new Captains, fans will have to complete the corresponding missions, moments, conquest, showdown, and event that come with the new program. Reaching Tiers 26 and 28 can be achieved by securing a 110 and 120 program stars, which is no quick feat to accomplish. However, if you’re big on the Future Stars Series players, these two Captains do provide boosts by having them in your lineup and rotation, making it certainly worth your while.

Father’s Day Program Captain

MLB The Show 23 released a Father’s Day Program in celebration of the U.S. holiday on June 16. And inside, comes an exclusive 95 overall Captain Series item fans can unlock at Tier 14 of the reward path:

• Ken Griffey Sr. (LF) – Mariners

If you happen to be a big fan of the Father’s Day Program in Diamond Dynasty, this Captain Series Griffey Sr. card is just for you. In order to secure this quality player item, fans will need to complete the program’s missions, moments, conquest, and event in order to reach Tier 14.

Requiring you to collect Father’s Day Program Hitters to activate his special boosts, the new Griffey Sr. Captain item will give you +15 Battling Clutch, +15 Contact vs R, +10 Plate Vision, and +5 Contact vs L once you unlock his Tier 3 boost.

As you progress your way through the April Topps Now Program rewards ladder, you will be able to unlock two of these Captain Series packs, which will grant you the chance to select the following two players:

• Anthony Rendon (3B) – Nationals
• Joe Musgrove (SP) – Padres

Just like the previous Captains, Rendon and Musgrove both come with 92 overall ratings and have Captain collection requirements tied to April Topps Now Program players.

April Monthly Awards Program Captains

Inside the April Monthly Awards Program, fans can secure two Set 1 Captain Series players. Instead of being listed as 92 overalls, these two Captains are significantly better, each baring 95 overall ratings.

Upon reaching Tiers 5 and 6 of the program, fans will be able to unlock the following two Captain Series players in Diamond Dynasty:

• Carlos Santana (C) – Guardians
• Mark Pryor (SP) – Cubs

Similarly to the April Topps Now Captains, the collection requirements for both Santana and Pryor do consist of collecting April Monthly Awards Program players.
