Along with the slew of new player ratings NBA 2K23 released yesterday, they also included a handful of Top 5 lists pertaining to a variety of different neat categories, such as 3PT shooting, dunking, nationalities, and more.

One of the most notable of the bunch, was the Top 5 rookies, presenting fans a look at the best youngsters they might want to play with in the latest edition of NBA 2K.

From year to year, most if not all rookies tend to stay below the 80 overall threshold to start the season. There are some exceptions to the rule, such as point guard Cade Cunningham who was an 80 overall in NBA 2K22. However, that was not the case this year in NBA 2K23, with none of the rookies surpassing an overall rating higher than a 78 overall.

The Top 5 rookies in NBA 2K23

It comes to no surprise that the number one overall pick Paolo Banchero claims the top spot amongst all the rookies in NBA 2K23. But having him joined by Jabari Smith is certainly a bit of surprise considering the projected number one overall pick fell to third overall in the NBA Draft.

Here’s our full breakdown of the Top 5 Rookies in NBA 2K23:

1. Paolo Banchero (Orlando Magic) – 78 Overall

Banchero is an-all around talent that has the potential to become a big star in the NBA. With unreal athleticism and a diverse skill set with his scoring and defense, the number one overall pick is worthy of this spot.

2. Jabari Smith (Houston Rockets) – 78 Overall

The bright prospect from Auburn was able to join Banchero for the top spot on this rookies list in NBA 2K23 and understandably so. Leading up to the draft, many thought that Smith would go number one overall considering how dangerous and well-rounded of a player he shaped out to be in college. Despite not taking the number one pick, Smith has every right to be tied with Banchero.

3. Chet Holmgren (Oklahoma City Thunder) – 77 Overall

The lanky Gonzaga stud unfortunately will miss his first season in the NBA due to suffering a Lisfranc injury to his right foot during the offseason. That said, NBA 2K23 gave him the love he deserved with a 77 overall rating, a fitting mark considering how dangerous he can be no matter where he is on the court.

4. Keegan Murray (Sacramento Kings) – 76 Overall

If there’s any Top 5 rookie you should keep close tabs to this season, its Keegan Murray. After coming off a huge season with Iowa before being drafted (23.5 points per game with 8.7 rebounds), Murray has very high upside and is a very versatile big man that penetrates well and can shoot from behind the arc.

5. Jaden Ivey (Detroit Pistons) – 76 Overall

The new Pistons backcourt got a whole better with the arrival of Jaden Ivey. The two-way guard was the best guard in the Draft this year and from slashing, outside shooting, passing, and defense, this kid can flat out do it all and will be fun to try out in NBA 2K23.
