Last week, a mysterious PEGI rating for a PC port of the original 1996 Resident Evil game appeared and since then players have been wondering where this would lead. We don’t need to wonder anymore as it has been confirmed that a Resident Evil trilogy collection is coming to PC, and you can buy the first entry in the series right now.

The classic Resident Evil trilogy will see its release on GOG, the gaming storefront owned by CD Projekt Red with its main selling point being no DRM protection. This new bundle will come with numerous quality-of-life changes that make the games playable without any fan-made patches, such as Rebirth that players need to use to play the original 90s releases today.

  • Full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • All 4 localizations of the game included (English, German, French, Japanese)
  • Improved DirectX game renderer.New rendering options (Windowed Mode, Vertical Synchronization Control, Gamma Correction, Integer Scaling, Anti-Aliasing and more).
  • Improved timing of the cutscenes.
  • Improved game video player.Improved game registry settings.
  • Issue-free game exit and task switching.
  • Full support for modern controllers (Sony DualSense, Sony DualShock4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Microsoft Xbox One, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Logitech F series and many more) with optimal button binding regardless of the hardware and wireless mode.

Players who have been using the ’90s versions of the Resident Evil games may not feel much need to purchase this collection, but it will make it much more accessible for those who don’t want to apply patches and do the necessary workarounds to get the old versions working.

Each game will cost £8.99, with Resident Evil 1 being purchasable now, or you can buy all three together for £20.99, with the remaining two being released before the end of 2024.

It is a shame the collection isn’t on Steam, but finally having a way to officially purchase the classic Resident Evil trilogy is fantastic so it is difficult to complain about it. Despite using the 90s versions for many years, I will still be buying this version to support the release, as showing the effort to make it playable on modern systems is worth it which could lead to more titles such as Dino Crisis making a return.
