Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is finally here, bringing a whole game’s worth of content to Elden Ring in the form of an expansion DLC. FromSoftware has gone all out with this one and it has received widespread crucial acclaim. With it being over two years since Elden Ring was first released, this is the first time in a while that some players have returned to the game, and many are saying it is like playing it for the first time all over again.

Players took to Reddit to discuss Shadow of the Erdtree, with some saying that it is like playing Elden Ring for the first time, with U/Bionic_Craig saying “I’m loving being lost in the game and exploring everywhere I find. Such an unusual feeling in modern gaming.”

U/aRandomBoi_11 is choosing to enjoy every moment of their first playthrough saying”You get to experience for the first time only once, I’d not want it to be wasted rushing in, better take it slowly, be curious, be cautious (and cuz I love suffering, I haven’t upgraded that weird shadow realm level up system more than once). I first found a lot of random things, like a strange dungeon and a certain boss instead of the beast boss everyone seems to be finding first (obviously I’m avoiding giving spoilers). No guides no nothing, just getting lost and marvel at what Fromsoft cooked.”

U/RVFVS117 is new to Elden Ring after having spent much of their time playing Baldur’s Gate 3 saying “I can’t believe I slept on this game for so long, only Baldur’s Gate 3 has engrossed me so much in a game in the past 4 or so years. Where BG3 gave me old BioWare vibes, this game gives me the same feeling that Morrowind gave me back in the day. That alone is something very special, I never thought I’d experience a game like that again. Suffice to say I can’t wait to explore more and I’m so happy I chose to pick up the game when I did. It’s has cemented its place as one of my favorite of all time and Fromsoft has earned their place as one of my favorite developers.”

Shadow of the Erdtree has been a huge success so far, pushing Elden Ring to close to 800,000 concurrent players on Steam and even more on PlayStation and Xbox. FromSoftware has once again shown why it is one of the top development studios in modern gaming and the future is bright for the Souls genre.
