The Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance release date is almost here, and this launch brings with it a definitive edition of SMT 5 for everyone to enjoy all over again. As we’ve seen with Persona games, Atlus loves to release a second version of a game a year or two after the initial launch. SMT 5 Vengeance is just that: an enhanced version of SMT 5 with new battle skills, more exploration, new demons, and more.
When is the SMT 5 Vengeance release date?
The SMT 5 Vengeance release date is Friday, 14 June 2024. This launch date has been confirmed by Atlus and the game’s listing on various digital storefronts like Steam. SMT 5 Vengeance is a re-release of the original game from 2021, but this version comes with new content. You can expect to explore new areas, face new enemies, and enjoy improved gameplay systems and mechanics. If you’re familiar with Atlus’ Persona games, this is effectively the same deal as Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal.
What’s new in SMT 5 Vengeance?
SMT 5 Vengeance is something of a definitive edition of the original SMT 5, and this version adds a lot of new content. As per a blog post on Sony’s website, there will be 270 new and familiar demons added, including ‘Powerful new Magatsuhi Skill’, which are also called unison skills. “These unison skills are unlocked after receiving a new kind of talisman called a periapt, which states the skill and demons required to use it. Gather these demons as your allies to command the tactical advantage in battle: unleash fearsome attacks, improve your chances with support skills, or bestow life-saving healing effects on your team”.
With access to stronger skills, you will face tougher foes. In SMT 5 you can “explore the apocalyptic netherworld known as Da’at and encounter glowing red enemies called Magatsuhi demons. These enemies are stronger than your typical demon and will hunt you down if you’re not careful”. There will be new quests added to the game where you control demons like Alice and Pixie, letting you explore areas in a new way.
Exploration has been improved, too. You can see Magatsuhi for fast travel, get a bird’s eye view of the map, and discover handy shortcuts to get around places much faster than you could in the original game. Mostly, a lot of systems in the game have been made easier to use and have been expanded upon, as is the case with new icons and quest markers added to the map. Some more notable changes are accessibility options. Now, you can save your game from anywhere on the map and the increased pick-up range of relics.
