A small number of physical copies of Starfield appear to have made it into player hands early, as people are posting clips of them booting up the game to the Starfield Subreddit.

A short video from a Reddit user by the name of Bloodwalker shows at least one copy in the wild, though they’ve not given the name of the retailer they got it from. The UI of the game does reveal that they’re from Germany, and intriguingly, it does appear to be a Standard Edition of the game too. This is notable, as this version does not normally entitle them to the early access period – although of course the physical copy means presumably as long as they don’t connect their console to the internet, it’ll let them play unrestricted.

Retailers breaking street dates isn’t anything new of course. On the occasions when demand is high – and we expect demand will be exceptionally high for Starfield – a retailer may send out copies early in order to ensure that deliveries and logistics can allow for the game to get into a customer’s hands in time for the official launch date. But of course, it won’t make the wait any easier for those desperate to get their hands on the game come the Starfield early access start time. Happily, however, there’s not a lot of jealously in the thread in Reddit so far, with other users heartwarmingly wishing the intrepid space pioneer good luck on their journey.

It wasn’t such a rosy picture for the person who managed to leak copies of the game earlier this month, however. Darin Harris, 29 of Tennessee who was charged with stealing 67 copies of the game and trying to sell them on, after leaking 45 minutes of footage online as reported by Polygon.

For the rest of us, however, there isn’t too much longer left to wait. The Starfield early access start time is just a few hours away, and then the game’s general release is right around the corner on Tuesday, September 6.
