Although it doesn’t have as much popularity as other multiplayer games, The Finals is a great experience and a terrific amount of fun to play. Unfortunately though, Season 3 has been a bit of a mixed bag, especially compared to seasons 1 and 2. While Terminal Attack as Ranked has received the biggest flak, many of The Finals fans are also arguing that Light needs to be nerfed as it’s “killing” the game.

Check out the 3.3.0 patch notes to see the latest update from Embark. There are no balance changes included, much to the ire of many fans, but the update added a must-buy item to the store thanks to an incredible unique feature. Not only that, but the update also added Ruby rank with possibly Ruby skins coming at the end of the season for the top 500 players.

There’s a lot to appreciate about The Finals right now, and players are happy with the new Season 3 content introduced such as the Kyoto map and Japanese-themed weapons and gadgets. Still, despite these big inclusions, some fans are not happy with the balancing of the game right now, and they believe Light needs to be nerfed.

The Finals fans argue Light needs to be nerfed

There are three classes to play as in The Finals: Light, Medium, and Heavy. Unlike the other two, Light has been the biggest bone of contention. Fans in Season 2 were complaining that it was ruined and nerfed way too much, and now some fans are imploring for it to be nerfed again in Season 3.

Light is the most popular class, to the point where it is “killing” the game according to fans. On Reddit, user Dexman95 claims to have played five matches in a row full of Lights and maybe one other Medium. Their post is accompanied by a screenshot showing the dilemma:

Reacting to the issue, many comments echoed the sentiment, “Lights killing this game, it’s a sad sight to see”. Per the comments, the biggest issue with Lights is the throwing knives combined with dash, which some fans argue is even worse than the infamous cloak debacle back in Season 2.

In replying to the patch notes for 3.3.0 on Reddit, some fans argued that Light needs to be nerfed as soon as possible. One fan commented, “The way they [Lights] currently play makes them annoying as hell to play against… They have more mobility offensively and defensively allowing them to engage you on their terms and disengage on their terms, and have the most DPS”.

This same fan further elaborated, “I’ve never really been a doomer about anything ‘killing’ the game until the current state right now. 50%+ players running around every game as light terrorizing anyone that doesn’t submit and play light themselves or fully coordinate with their teammates will make people stop playing this game. It’s basically already got me to stop. I just find every game being more frustrating then ever before because unless I go full ass sweat mode I’m in for a world of hurt against a class that can play multiple weapons and have their way with me”.

In response to the above frustration, fans commented, “I agree with this. Playercount is at an all time low. Nobody wants to be killed in 0.5 seconds but here we are”. More fans commented “It’s making the game boring as the only real counter if you solo queue is to just play as Light yourself. Easily the worst meta so far”.

Unfortunately, none of the comments provide any ideas for how Light should be nerfed other than pointing out the two biggest issues: throwing knives and dash. One fan commented that the game will never be balanced and that the only way to truly fix the constant balancing woes is to “to limit classes to one per team, or to limit weapons and gadgets to one per team”.

It will be interesting to see what balance changes Embark implement next week, if any at all. It is a difficult task for Embark as fans were complaining about too many nerfs to Light in Season 2 only to then want Light to be heavily nerfed again in Season 3. Hopefully some balance changes will come out next week so we have an update with more substance.
