The Finals is only less than a week away from the beginning of Season 3. All signs pointed to a Japan setting thanks to ‘leaks’ from the CNS, and this gorgeous new environment was confirmed at Summer Game Fest. Following the SGF reveal, Embark announced more details online, and this includes a significant change to Ranked in Season 3 designed to make The Finals a “more tactical and competitive experience”.

In addition to confirming a new map set in Japan, Embark has revealed new weapons and gadgets for each of the three classes: light, medium, and heavy. On a Reddit AMA, Embark also confirmed Season 3 will introduce text comms, and they have also stated ruby skins are indeed coming to accompany a new rank.

While the new Ruby rank hasn’t been mentioned in any of the Season 3 marketing material as of writing, Embark has confirmed that Terminal Attack is becoming the Ranked mode.

The Finals Season 3 is changing Ranked

For Season 3, Embark is changing The Finals’ Ranked mode to Terminal Attack. In a news post shared on Steam, the developer says the change is made to “emphasize a more tactical and competitive experience”.

We’ve previously been afforded the ability to play Terminal Attack during Season 2, but below is the description from Embark:

“In Terminal Attack, attackers deliver a Decryption Key to one of two terminals, while defenders guard the terminals and prevent the transfer from completing. This strategic, 5v5, attack-and-defend mode pits two teams against each other for the best of 13 rounds. Contestants must plan carefully, strategize, and collaborate — with no healing, no revives, and only one life per round, every decision counts.”

As for the new map, it is set in Kyoto. Below is Embark’s description of the fresh setting:

“Nestled against a steep mountainside in the lush Kyoto Valley, the new Kyoto 1568 arena features a network of interwoven 16th-century temples, gardens, and dense bamboo forests — in contrast to the modern urban arenas THE FINALS is famous for.

“Intense terrain height variation, interconnected, layered buildings with hidden traversal options underneath, encourage free-flowing, fluid, and sneaky player movement. Traditional Japanese Shoji paper walls that players can shoot through dial destruction up to eleven.”
