Embark finally pulled the curtain aside on The Finals Season 3 at Summer Game Fest. After showing an exciting trailer confirming a new setting in Japan, more details were shared online about the game’s imminent third chapter. In a move that has divided the fanbase, Embark has explained why they have decided to remove Cashout from Ranked in The Finals Season 3.

In addition to confirming a new map in Japan, Embark has announced a bunch of brilliant new weapons and gadgets for each of the classes: light, medium, and heavy. There is no mention of a ruby rank or skins as of writing despite previous teases, but we are officially getting a new comms feature fans have wanted since day one.

Season 3 is scheduled to launch this week, and there are some massive changes coming to Ranked. The biggest change to Ranked in The Finals is the removal of Cashout, and Embark has stated that this move is for the better.

Why Cashout is removed from Ranked in The Finals Season 3

Embark has shared an update on the upcoming Season 3 features on The Finals subreddit. This update was shared by Embark Dusty, and it explains all of the changes and new features that will be introduced this week.

In discussing Ranked, Embark Dusty’s post explains that Terminal Attack has become the defacto Ranked exhibition because “The 5v5 mode creates close, competitive, head-to-head matches”. As for Cashout, it has been removed from Ranked with Cashout exclusive to World Tour.

Embark Dusty’s post says, “In Season 3, World Tour will feature Cashout tournaments with 24 players as the primary mode. You’ll be able to rank up your badge, earn prizes, check the leaderboards, and play the mode you know and love. These events will always be on and available to play throughout the season”.

As for why Cashout has been removed from Ranked, the justification is that it gives Embark a “chance to work on Cashout and make vital improvements to the mode that would have been difficult to do when it’s locked into ranked for a whole season”.

There is the possibility Cashout returns to Ranked in the future as Dusty mentions making vital improvements “will give us a chance to make Cashout more viable as a competitive mode in the future”. There’s also an acknowledgement that “Cashout will never leave the spotlight as the most important part of The Finals”.

While we’ve had the luxury of playing Terminal Attack in Season 2, we are set to get the following changes to the mode in Season 3:

  • Requiring the Attacking team to interact with the terminal to deliver it, rather than just throwing the key in from a distance
  • Warm-up zones that give defenders more time to prepare and strategize
  • Playing the different objective scenarios in the same sequence in each half of Attacking and Defending, to make a more balanced experience
  • Resetting the map destruction when teams switch from attacking to defending

The Finals Season 3 is scheduled to launch on June 13th.
