Hypercharge Unboxed first released on PC in 2020 before making it’s way to Xbox One and Series X in May 2024. After just one month on the green brand, it has been announced that the game has sold over 100,000 copies.

In an interview with Xbox Wire, Hypercharge: Unboxed Creative Gameplay & Marketing Director Joe Henson spoke about the game being released on Xbox and the milestone that it has already reached within its first month on the platform. “It feels almost surreal – like living in a dream. Sometimes, I wake up and wonder if it’s all real!” he said.

Hypercharge Unboxed peaked on the Xbox sales chart at number 3, beating out the likes of GTA 5 for the week. This is even more impressive when you consider that the game was developed by a team of just six people.

Taking inspiration from movies such as Toy Story and Small Soldiers, Hypercharge Unboxed transforms the player into an action figure as you do battle throughout various locations including a bedroom, garage, and garden, with the option of both first and third-person combat. The game features both online and offline multiplayer and co-op as well as a story campaign, giving players plenty to do in the game.

Wrapping up the interview, Henson spoke about why the game was so important to the team, saying that it is “For parents who grew up in the late ’80s and early ’90s, it’s a trip down memory lane – a chance to relive the excitement of their childhood. But more importantly, it allows them to share this joy with their children.”

Hypercharge Unboxed looks like it will continue to bring in new players as it has been revealed that Xbox Cloud Gaming is coming to Amazon Fire in July, and it has been leaked that Nvidia’s GeForce Now service could be coming to Xbox consoles in the future too.
