XDefiant, Ubisoft’s latest competitive FPS offering, and its factions are fittingly made up of several of the studio’s IPs, including Far Cry, The Division, Splinter Cell, and more. Each one also has two unique skills you can choose from before the start of a match that can often give your team a crucial advantage. Based on recent community reactions, however, one particular XDefiant ability is standing out for all the wrong reasons: DedSec’s spider bot.

Now, if you haven’t earned your DedSec colors yet, you may want to check out how to unlock all faction characters in XDefiant first. But to give you a preview of what going up against the spider bot is like, let us give you a quick overview of how it functions. Once you activate it, the spider bot scurries along the floor until it encounters an enemy player. Once it sees a target, it jumps on the opposing player’s face, slowing them down tremendously and rendering them incapable of using weapons for a few seconds.

With this in mind, you can see how the spider bot’s chaotic tendencies prompt complaints from players like u/JohnOsako. Luckily, like any old ability, the spider bot has its weaknesses; you can shoot it while it’s still scampering on the ground, or you can shoot it off your teammate’s face. However, its small size and the game’s fast-paced nature make it difficult to see everything happening around you. And since you only have a few seconds to take it down before it goes all Facehugger on you, you essentially become a sitting duck.

Despite these complaints, though, the XDefiant spider bot is far from being overpowered. After all, it still has a relatively respectable cooldown and can also easily be countered by grouping up, which means it still pales in comparison to the Echelon Intel Suit’s “legal wall hacks.” That said, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Ubisoft slightly nerf or buff it in the future, if only to change the game’s meta. But that might not happen for a while with the impending hit reg fixes and sniper nerf on the way.
