The latest AMD APUs were very recently been announced by Team Red. They had long been anticipated, though a release date for the Ryzen 8000G series is now confirmed.

Touted as having the “world’s most powerful built in-graphics”, according to AMD itself, the APUs will be first available on January 31st, 2024 (today!). The release is caveated that OEM manufacturers will be receiving the chips in Q2 2024. It’s not long until they’re here, so you might also consider where to buy the Ryzen 8000G APUs.

While the 87000G, 8600G, and 8500G are going to be released at the end of January, it’s unlikely that the Ryzen 8300G will launch that soon. One of the few OEM-only products released in this body, this particular APU is expected to release much later on in the year.

It looks like January is going to be a busy month for AMD products, with the release of the Radeon RX 7600 XT also landing just short of the end of the month.

Ryzen 8000G APU series prices confirmed

The price of the entire 8000G APU series has also been confirmed by AMD, with the exception of the chip on the lowest rung.

AMD Ryzen 7 8700G$329
AMD Ryzen 5 8600G$229
AMD Ryzen 5 8500G$129

As we saw with the 5000G APUs, the 5300G was OEM manufacturer only, so it never saw a consumer release. It looks likely that the 8300G will see a similar treatment. This explains why there’s no associated price listed by AMD. The 8300G will likely go straight into pre-built Mini PCs and productivity rigs, rather than seeing the light of store shelves.

The prices of the other APUs seem to be fairly in line with what we saw from the 5000-series APUs – if not matched identically. There’s few surprises laid here.

The outright specs of the AMD Ryzen 8000G series are pretty unspectacular. The processor with integrated graphics is a vast improvement over the previous iteration thanks to the updates to Zen 4 and RDNA 3 architecture, and there’s an added emphasis on AI processing (of which only the 8700G and 8600G are equipped with.)

AMD Ryzen AI is going to enhance workflows in a range of ways: eye tracking, motion framing, data processing, and many more productivity enhancing upgrades. Content creators will largely benefit from these inclusions without needing to invest in a dedicated graphics card.
