Before you connect your Switch to your laptop, let’s go over everything you need:
- Nintendo Switch & Laptop
- Compatible ports. Make sure your laptop has an HDMI port or a USB-C port. These ports are used to connect external displays to the laptop.
- HDMI Cable. If you haven’t already, you need to get an HDMI cable to connect your Switch to a laptop. Your Switch should come with an HDMI cable but if it doesn’t you’ll need to buy one.
- Nintendo Dock. The Nintendo Dock can connect Switch to TV or monitor
- Video capture software & capture card. Video capture software is required to work with the laptop and manage the Switch while locked
How to connect Nintendo Switch to laptop
Step 1: Plug the Nintendo Switch’s HDMI cable into the HDMI In port of your Elgato HD60 HDMI capture card
Step 2: Open Game Capture HD on your laptop
Step 3: Press the Home button on any connected controller to power
Step 4: With the USB cable that comes with the Elgato HD60, plug it into the card and then into the laptop.
Step 5: In Game Capture HD software, you should see your Switch’s home screen come up within seconds. If it doesn’t, make sure the HDMI is plugged in properly.
Step 6: To make it full screen, click on the icon at the upper right corner of the screen
