For those interested in the speculation and rumours around a possible RDNA 4 series and wondering when we might hope for an RDNA 4 release date, don’t worry. You’ve come to the right place.

With all the excitement around the recent release of the RTX 4070 and the RTX 4070 specs we saw there – not to mention the latest speculation about the possible RTX 4060 release date – it’s no wonder that people are wondering about the future of GPU series. Rumours are swirling around Intel and the possible release date of their Intel Arc Battlemage series – but what about AMD? Could we see RDNA 4 soon? How soon?

Let’s get into it.

When might the RDNA 4 release date be?

It was only a few months ago that the RDNA 3 series was released back in December 2022. However, we may be seeing RDNA 4 as early as 2024 if the tease on their Financial Analyst Day presentation can be believed. In the background of the webcast, a slide with the timelines of each RDNA generation could be seen – with the fourth gen slated for 2024 with the “Navi 4x” tag. AMD label this ‘Advanced Mode’. If this tease is to be believed, this would give a two year gap between the generations.

We felt that this seemed reasonable as far as a speculated release date ballpark went, considering the relatively recent release of the RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX and commencement of the RDNA 3 series. We still hope to see some more mid-range options from this series before we would expect AMD to start rolling out the boost in technology we could reasonably hope to expect from a next generation GPU series.

Furthermore, this date speculation is supported by an apparent leak from this Moore’s Law is Dead video which claims that we might even see RDNA 4 as early as very late 2023, or early 2024. However, the video was posted as far back as 2021 and with no official announcement to support the claims, we would take it with a pinch of salt.

With that in mind, we’re going to tentatively speculate that the RDNA 4 might release in Q1 or Q2 of 2024 as we feel that a two year gap between generations is reasonable. We still have a fair amount we would expect to see from the RDNA 3 generation before seriously looking to the next gen. For this reason we felt that a similar timeline to the potential RTX 50 series release date seemed likely – particularly as we’re hoping these two will be somewhat on a par with one another.

We’re going to be keeping a close eye on this, so make sure to watch this space to keep up-to-date on all the latest news on when we might be seeing RDNA 4.

RDNA 4 rumours and leaks

In the interest of covering everything we’ll be updating this section with the latest rumours and leaks from RDNA 4.

One interesting piece of information comes from Rick Bergman, AMD’s EVP of Computing and Graphics Business Group, who promised to evolve the RDNA 4 generation of GPUs with a higher performance than what we saw with RDNA 3 when in conversation with 4Gamer. The fact that Bergman said we could see this in the “near future” suggested that RDNA 4 could be coming sooner than we think. To be clear though, RDNA 4 still looks like it’s in its infancy, so it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing the new architecture until 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

As there is so much speculation on this topic, it’s no wonder that many people have questions they want answers to. Below we’ve tried to answer some of the most popular queries people have on when we might be able to reasonably expect the RDNA 4 release date speculation to fall.

What does RDNA stand for AMD?

RDNA stands for Radeon DNA. Radeon is an AMD brand name used for both its GPUs but also other software like RAM and SDDs developed by AMD.

Which is better RDNA 2 or RDNA 3?

With AI acceleration, AMD Radiance Display Engine, and Chiplet Design added into the mix, RDNA 3 has a lot to offer on the old RDNA 2. However, some gamers may still find the RDNA 2 series better value for their individual needs in a case-by-case toss up of price and value for money.
