Signed up for Threads but don’t want just anyone to see your account? We’ve got you covered.

Threads, released July 6th, is Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta rivalry application to Twitter. Users on Threads can post threads and reposts, much like Elon Musk’s popular social media platform with tweets and retweets. For more insight into the rivalry of these two famous figures, it would be worth having a read on the upcoming Musk Vs Zuckerberg fight. With over 100 million users signing up in the first 5 days alone, Threads has acquired a large following. But as there have been some confusion on how to delete your Threads account, it begs the question of how you can make your account private.

Let’s get straight into it

How to make your Threads private – step-by-step guide

  • Open Threads, find your Profile in the bottom-right corner
  • Then select the Menu, the two lines in the top right corner
  • Open Settings and click “Privacy
  • Simply enable “Private Profile” by sliding the toggle, click “OK” in the pop-up window.

Now your Threads account will be private and, similar to Instagram, only your approved followers can see and interact with your content. To return back to a public account, simply slide the toggle back and click “OK”.

Difference between a public and private account on Threads

Having a private account on Threads allows you to have more control over who is seeing your content. To break it down more, we’ve found some of the key differences.

On a public profile anyone can follow you, see your profiles that you follow and who follow you, see your posts and repost your content. Whereas on a private profile, only people who follow you can see and do the above actions. Anyone, however, can see your profile information (profile photo, name, username) and share links to your threads, whether you have a private account or not.
