Development

Ubisoft announced the development of XDefiant initially in 2021, although with Tom Clancy's branding on it. After a series of pre-alpha versions from 2021 to early 2023, the company dropped the Tom Clancy title from the game's name, hinting at the appearances of other characters in the game.

XDefiant was planned to be released in October 2023. However, director Mark Rubin delayed the game's launch due to technical issues at that time.

Gameplay

XDefiant features intense first-person shooter combat and five factions to choose from. Each faction comes with two unique active abilities, a passive and an ultra ability.

Each faction also contains three characters, with one unlocked and two locked behind challenge completion. To unlock these two characters from each faction, players must complete unique challenges that can be looked at from the Challenge section in the game.

  • Cleaners
  • Phantoms
  • Echelon
  • Libertad
  • DedSec

Besides the characters, XDefiant gameplay features weapons from the following categories, each containing unique attachments, skins, and Mastery:

  • Assault Rifles
  • SMGs
  • LMGs
  • Handguns
  • Marksman rifles
  • Sniper Rifles

Each faction uses unique active skills, and passive buffs and has a unique ultra/ultimate ability that charges over time while playing with a certain character.

Game Modes

XDefiant features the following six game modes to play:

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Escort
  • Zone Control
  • Occupy
  • Hotshot
  • Domination

Each game mode requires a unique approach and playstyle to adapt to, and team cooperation is still a vital element throughout all game modes.

  • PlayStation 5
  • Windows
  • Xbox Series X/S
