Grain is a crafting material in Manor Lords and is used primarily to create flour, and then bread.

Grain production

Grain is harvested from wheat or rye. It then has to be threshed in the farmhouse to become the finished product.

Here are the basic steps involved.

Build a farm and farmhouse Plant and harvest rye or wheat Thresh the wheat into grain

Build a field and farmhouse

First off, build a field in an area with high emmer or rye fertility. The better the soil, the better the harvest! Then you will want to build a farmhouse, preferably nearby to make the production process more efficient.

Choose your crop

Select the field you want to grow your crop in, choose either wheat or rye, and assign some families to the farmhouse.

Rye seemingly does better in lower-fertility soil than wheat. To unlock rye, you will need to purchase the rye cultivation development node.

Time to thresh

The process of threshing is what converts the wheat or rye to grain. You can control the amount of wheat and rye being threshed by first clicking on the farmhouse.

Select the advanced tab and go to threshing priority. Here you can set it to high, which will have your farmers prioritize converting your crops to grain instead of of storing it as a crop.

Importing grain

Providing you have the regional wealth to do so, you can simply import grain. Here are the costs associated with this.

  • Import price - 12 regional wealth
  • Export price - 12 regional wealth
  • Trade route cost - 12 regional wealth

Importing from the trading post is also an option. It will cost you 12 regional wealth, but as always, if you decide to go with the better deals development, you can bring this as low as 2 regional wealth.

Grain uses

There are two major uses of grain, making flour and bread.

Converting grain into flour

To convert wheat into flour, you will need to build a windmill. Make sure to place your windmill in the best spot - somewhere with loads of space, but not in an inconvenient position for transport.

After you've made flour, you can then make bread which can be used to feed your settlement.

Sell for more regional wealth

As with most resources, you can export grain to make extra regional wealth. Prices will vary due to supply and demand in different territories.
